Overview and Working Principle of Agitated Nutsche Filter Dryer

The Agitated Nutsche Filter is a closed vessel that uses filtration under pressure or vacuum to isolate solids from liquids. The closed system maintains product quality and hygiene by providing odourless, contamination-free, and non-polluting working conditions. Chemical, herbal, pharmaceutical, agrochemical, and food industries all use agitated Nutsche Filters.

The cylindrical shell of the Agitated Nutsche Filter has a dished top and a welded flat bottom. Supports welded under the base plate stiffen the base plate. The filter cloth is kept in place by a bolting bar on the base plate. Under the filter fabric, a suitable support mesh is given to aid in the flow of the filtrate. Manhole and side discharge nozzles are among the available options. The Agitator shaft is made of solid bar, and the blades are made of the solid plate that is special “S” curved to withstand the high torque produced during solid discharge and re-slurring operations.

The agitated nutsche filter/dryer is a versatile piece of machinery used in a variety of industrial processes. It has the essential job of separating and isolating solids from a solvent and is mostly located only downstream of a reactor or crystallizer. It’s come a long way since the nutsche filter’s humble beginnings when separation was accomplished solely by suction. Rosenmund began modernization in the 1960s, when the vessel architecture was enclosed for containment, allowing friction and agitation to be introduced. Process control over parameters including temperature, pressure, pH, and agitation was also partly attributable to the closed system.

Configuration of the Nutsche Filter

The nutsche filter/dryer is made up of four main parts:

Vessel – The filter/body dryer’s is available in a one- or two-piece configuration, with a variety of base choices. For temperature-sensitive applications, jacketed vessels may provide efficient heat transfer to the product. Optional features include insulation and sheathing, main body flanges, and pusher ports.

Drive assembly – An S-blade agitator, twin or quad column support frame, bellows, gearbox, shaft coupling, and double dry mechanical seal make up the drive assembly.

Discharge Valve – A side discharge valve’s fail-safe configuration includes a metal-to-metal seal, pressure capabilities, hinge, monorail, and hydraulic actuation for reliable automatic discharge of dry product, solvent, slurry, or wet product.

Dust filter – The dust filter is flange-mounted to the top of the vessel and can handle different types of filter media. It is completely jacketed with insulation and sheathing in a pressure-rated housing to prevent dust blowback safely and effectively. It also has a nitrogen accumulation tank for removing contained elements.

Working Principles for Nutsche Filter/Dryer

Not every separation method necessitates the sophistication of a nutsche. Nutsche filter/dryers are ideal for applications that need the following process parameters:

  • Risk of hazardous or flammable products posing an environmental threat with limited floor space
  • Temperature management that is precise
  • Washing slurry
  • Separation of mother liquor and wash solutions to a tee.
  • Nutsche filter/dryers, like all specialised equipment, are not meant to be a solution for all separation processes.
